ERIKSSON’S 10 LAWS OF CANOEING

Law #1. Time spent canoeing shall be at least four times that spent on portaging.
Law #2. Winds shall never be so great that foam blows in your face.
Law #3. No portage shall be longer than two numerical digits in length.
Law #4a. When stepping in portage muck, it shall not be so deep that you lose sight of your boots.
Law #4b. Referring to Law #4a, when withdrawing your foot front the muck, the boot shall remain fixed to the foot.
Law #5a. A portage shall not be so steep that when going up or downhill the canoe’s bow or stern hits the ground.
Law #5b. Referring to Law #5a, take a break when both happen at the same time!
Law #6. There shall be canoe rests & seats spaced appropriately on every portage.
Law #7. Rocky portages shall not have boulders higher than the knee nor so numerous that a 2nd grader can’t easily count them.
Law #8. It rains only at night.
Law #9. Bears shall not leave presents, nor growl, snort or scratch tree bark so loudly it disturbs slumber.
Law #10. My partner cheerfully carries the cast iron fry pan and canoe anchor.
