DNR Publishes Traveler's Guide to Wildlife in Minnesota (res11)
A new 326-page guide, "Traveler's Guide to Wildlife in Minnesota",p rovides information and directional maps for 120 places in Minnesota where people can view and photograph a wide variety of wildlife in all four seasons. There is helpful information on viewing everything from prairie butterflies to bald eagles, prairie chickens, and moose.
The book, which has been in development for four years, summarizes where wildlife enthusiasts can see birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and butterflies as they explore Minnesota. The book includes two maps per wildlife viewing site.
Accompanying the site information are 190 color photos of Minnesota wildlife, ranging from regal fritillaries to Blanding's turtles, boreal owls, pine martens, and moose. Eleven "featured species sections" give additional details for encountering some of the state's most sought-after wildlife: prairie chickens, sharp-tailed grouse, peregrine falcons, moose, raptors in fall, winter owls, timber wolves, common loons, bald eagles, tundra swans, and spring warblers.
The "Traveler's Guide to Wildlife in Minnesota " has been produced by the DNR Nongame Wildlife Program, with funding from the Nongame Wildlife Checkoff. Supplemental funding was provided from the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources' Environmental Trust Fund and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Carrol Henderson, Andrea Lambrecht, and the regional wildlife biologists of the DNR Nongame Wildlife Program produced the book.
The book costs $19.95. To order, call Minnesota's Bookstore at 1-800-657-3757 or 612/297-3000, the DNR Gift Shop at 612/228-9165, or check with a local bookseller.
